Do you believe that democracy means we elect our government and then let them get on with it? Or that once they are in power there is nothing we can do to influence their decisions? Or that petitions are never listened to?
NO! surely this is wrong! we do have the power and also a human duty to monitor and influence our governments.
In the UK, "New Labour" came to power in 2005 with a mere 9 million & something votes - it was only about 20% of registered voters who actually endorsed their manifesto.
Don't you think that if we could get petitions signed with a few million names rather than a few hundred or thousand that they would have a democratic duty to take note of this country's wishes?
Petitions are only worthless when people can't be bothered to sign them BIG petitions do work:

Petition 1) Don’t let Britain become a safe haven for war criminals.
The UK Government are planning imminent changes to the law, to avoid any future attempts to prosecute suspected war criminals, Israeli or otherwise.
This would see the UK reneging on its international treaty obligations, particularly those under the Fourth Geneva Convention which commit signatories to 'seek out and prosecute persons suspected of war crimes wherever and whoever they are, whatever their status, rank or influence, against whom good prima facie evidence has been laid.' Such an attempt to undermine the judiciary’s independence and integrity must be rejected in the strongest terms.

Petition 2) GAZA: Stop the Siege! Stop the War!
To: Israeli Government and World Leaders
The situation in Gaza has reached emergency levels -- inadequate water, electricity, and medicine; widespread hunger, poverty, and unemployment; schools and other services rendered inoperative; constant bombardments and attacks by the Israeli military.
This humanitarian catastrophe is man-made: It was brought on by the ongoing siege of the Gaza Strip by Israel and the sanctions imposed by the international community on Palestine, made worse by repeated IDF attacks. If this situation continues, we will see spreading disease, malnutrition, and more violence. Under these conditions, negotiations -- the only way to reach peace between both peoples -- also become an impossibility.
We call upon Israeli leaders to end the siege of and war on Gaza. We call upon world leaders to end the political and economic sanctions of Palestine.
The siege and sanctions are sowing chaos and death in Gaza. They must come to an end.

Quick & easy action: if you think Obama has failed to bring any real pressure on Israel, why not tell him! All he did so far was send an impotent envoy (who was nearly as big a waste of OUR money than Envoy Tony Blair is), rewarded them by waiving all import duty on their Dairy Produce into the USA, and he has increased their reward/bribe money (USA taxpayers' hard earnt cash which they desperately need as their homes are repossessed) to over $10,000,000 per DAY.
