Published today 28/01/2010 14:52 Bethlehem - Ma'an - In what organizers are calling "the highest profile arrest of the recent wave of repression against West Bank popular struggle," Israeli forces detained Popular Committee member Mohammed Khatib from the village of Bil'in before sunrise Thursday.
According to fellow members of the Popular Committee, Israeli forces entered the village at 2am, and stormed Khatib's home, waking Mohammad, his wife and four young children. The home was quickly searched and troops retreated from the area shortly after the arrest.
Several witnesses and international solidarity workers reported seeing five military jeeps return to the home approximately 30 minutes after the detention. According to a statement, "six soldiers forced their way into the house again, where Khatib's children sat in terror, and conducted another, very thorough search of the premises, without showing a search warrant. During the search, Khatib's phone and many documents were seized, including papers from Bil'in's legal procedures in the Israel High Court."
Witnesses said soldiers left a note "saying that documents suspected as 'incitement materials' were seized," the statement said.
Khatib was detained on 3 August, and charged with incitement and stone throwing. He was released two weeks after the detention, when a judge in the Israeli military court found evidence against him was falsified. Lawyers proved Khatib was out of the country at the time the army alleged he was photographed throwing stones during a demonstration.

"Since the Annapolis agreement, in which the Government of Israel accepted an obligation to “freeze all settlement activity, including the ‘natural growth’ of existing settlements”, there has actually been an acceleration of house building in settlements in the west bank. Official figures released by the Israeli Ministry of Construction and Housing identify current construction projects in nine settlements in the west bank. They range from one of 106 dwellings in Ariel, which is a big Israeli settlement deep in the northern west bank, to one of 144 units at Alfei Menashe, which is a settlement near the Palestinian town of Qalqilya. Some 642 units are currently being constructed in two different settlements in Bethlehem, and 944 units at Ma’ale Adumim, which I have just mentioned. The Foreign Secretary saw the work going on there. Nearly 2,000 units are being built at Har Homa, a hill in Arab East Jerusalem overlooking Bethlehem. That is a total of 4,554 units."

One Israeli official quoted in The Guardian this morning said: “Negotiations are good, results are bad.” It is impossible to conduct negotiations with a party that does not have an interest in their success. "Like many Americans and many Jews, I grew up with a positive view of Israel as a peace-seeking democracy. Israel symbolized to me the one protection that Jews had against the type of persecution that had plagued families like mine throughout history. I saw the Jewish state as a tiny and victimized country that simply wanted to live in peace but couldn’t because of its aggressive, Jew-hating Arab neighbors.
In 2003, during a backpacking trip through the Middle East, I began to meet Palestinian refugees from 1948. I didn’t know who the Palestinians were, or where Palestine was, and through my new acquaintances I began to hear a narrative about the history and present of Israel/Palestine that was entirely different from the one I had learned growing up in the United States.
My first reaction was disbelief, and anger. Families told me stories of past and present military attacks, house demolitions, land confiscation, imprisonment without trial, and torture. It seemed that these actions were not carried out for the protection of Jewish people, but rather for the creation and expansion of a Jewish state at the expense of the rights, lives, and dignity of the non-Jewish people living in the region. It was hard for me to believe that Israel could act so unjustly.
Not believing what I heard, I decided to do some research to prove myself right. Immediately, I was shocked to find how much I didn’t know about the situation on the ground. Not knowing who or what to believe anymore, I decided to go to see the situation with my own eyes. Since I returned, I’ve dedicated my life to informing fellow Americans and others about what I found, and what they can do to support a just peace for all peoples in Israel/Palestine."

Many Israeli Soldiers now refuse to serve in the Illegally Occupied Territories: Israel appears to be verging towards Totalitarianism & these people along with many others who seek justice for the Arabs are jailed, beaten or vilified.
Yesh Gvul (“There is a limit !”) is an Israeli peace group campaigning against the occupation by backing soldiers who refuse duties of a repressive or aggressive nature.
The brutal role of the Israeli army in subjugating the Palestinian population places numerous servicemen in a grave moral and political dilemma, as they are required to enforce policies they deem illegal, immoral and ultimately harmful to Israeli interests.

We used to suppose the State Terrorism against civilians was out of paranoia, but it has become apparent from much evidence that it is in fact a finely tuned mechanism of the ongoing insidious Ethnic Cleansing and dehumanisation process. Which will never work unless Israel finds a way to kill them more quickly or sterilise them, because the Palestinians birthrate is still higher than the rate at which they are killed or turfed out of their homes.
Our politicians appear to be supporting & rewarding the Israeli government for the Illegal Occupation of Palestine. Obama just waived the tariffs on Dairy Produce from Israel, also since the Gaza Massacre he has increased the US taxpayer's funding of the US sponsored Apartheid/Terrorist Regime to over US$ 10,000,000 per DAY - and thereby is cheering on the oppression, illegal activities and murder of innocent civilians (which they say is "defence"). If you disagree with their policies which cost the tax payers of the world TRILLIONS and keep the majority of the world's population grossly underfunded (or not funded at all) in just about every aspect of health, education, transport, culture and social welfare, then EMAIL your protest NOW. AREN'T YOU SICK OF IT?

Whilst American workers have their homes repossessed & the poorest U.S. citizens suffer, President Obama's Imperialist regime has so far maintained the U.S.$ 7,000,000,000 unconditional "AID" to Israel.
Either directly or indirectly this money buys the horrific (often U.S. supplied weapons such as the illegally used White Phosphorus shells) and also helps to fund the huge Illegal subsidies the Israeli government offers as "incentives" to illegally transfer Israeli population to the Illegally Occupied Territories - though as in the case of the water supply it is often the oppressed indigenous population themselves who are forced to pay premium prices so the Illegal Settlers (often armed and vicious) who get up to 70% discount on the water they are stealing from the Arabs aquifers. People will often say “it’s so complicated” or “there will never be peace between the Arabs & the Jews”
Our belief is that if we leave it up to our leaders, with all their vested interests & political considerations eg: “now we must stop criticizing Netanyahu’s regime as we want him to help us attack Iran” (which would be even more madness), it will be complicated & nothing will ever change.
Surely the power for peace lies with the individual citizens on both sides who are willing to speak out for true justice & whose desire is to build bridges not walls.
We plead that both sides STOP the killing, maiming and otherwise mentally or physically torturing of innocent civilians NOW
We implore Hamas who were fairly elected: "even though you have been treated shamefully by Israel, USA, UK et al, PLEASE will you try to secure the soonest possible release of Israeli Soldier Gilad Shalit as an Islamic unilateral declaration of peace and love towards all human beings."
Also "please use your hard earnt influence to persuade all militants, in the face of Netanyahu & Ehud Barak's overwhelming terrorist acts against the innocent civilians of Gaza, to make a unilateral declaration of peace against their atrocities - the world (the citizens, NOT our cynical leaders) is finally coming round to demanding the justice you have been denied for so long" Thank you - you did this!
